“I’m in love,” Kuroo announces. He has four kittens wriggling to escape his embrace. He kisses their heads in turn.
“Me too,” Bokuto says, rubbing his nose in fluffy furr. “In fact I’m in love with, wait, let me count one, two, three–”
Bokuto’s cut off with a yelp, as tiny claws dig into the side of his face. A kitten tries to climb to the top of Bokuto’s head, digging into Bokuto’s cheek harshly. “Ow, ow, ow help, someone help–”
Akaashi comes to his rescue, prying the kitten gently. “He probably thinks your hair is a nest, Bokuto-san.”
Kuroo gives Akaashi a look of deep disgust. “Kittens don’t nest, Akaashi. That’s for gross birds like owls.”
Bokuto gasps in horror. His lap-full of kittens mewls at the noise.
“You take that back,” Bokuto hisses.
Kuroo sticks his tongue out at him and Akaashi flicks his cheek reprimandingly.
“No fighting in front of the kittens or we have to send them back,” Akaashi lectures.
Now both his boyfriends look distraught.
“You wouldn’t!” Kuroo cries.
“Akaashi please!” Bokuto begs.
“Shh!” Akaashi says, as his own kitten droops on arm. The mother dozes in his lap. “They need to sleep.”
“Can they sleep in our bed?” Bokuto asks with a pleading look. He nuzzles a sleepy kitten, trying to combine their cuteness until Akaashi can’t refuse.
Akaashi sighs as Kuroo joins in. There’s no winning this one.
“Alright,” Akaashi says. “But just for tonight.”
It wasn’t just for that night. And three weeks later, Akaashi squashes his pride, and throws the unused cat bed out.
